Scottish Combination overview

Scottish Alliance

The second version of the Scottish Combination was formed on 22 July 1935 primarily to give the reserve sides of Ayr United, Edinburgh City and Third Lanark league competition. The initial complement of clubs were Ayr United ‘A’, Third Lanark ‘A’, Edinburgh City ‘A’, Rosyth Dockyard Recreation, Bo’ness, Nithsdale Wanderers and Stranraer. AA Jackson of Ayr was appointed President, J Murray of Stranraer as Vice President, and T Jennings of Third Lanark as Secretary. A subsequent meeting in Glasgow on 30 July saw the admittance of four more clubs – Queen’s Park Victoria XI, Girvan, Dalbeattie Star and Vale Ocoba.

Third Lanark ‘A’ left for the Scottish Alliance in 1936, as did Ayr United ‘A’ in 1937 when their first teams were promoted to the Scottish League First Division. After this the league simply disbanded.

Thanks to Thomas McGouran for researching a number of missing results.
